2019 GMC Terrain Denali Changes Similar to the Chevy Trax, the GMC Terrain is the right product at just the right time. Sales of the new compact crossover rose 44 percent to just under 33,000 units in the first three months of 2018, leaving the new second-year model to resonate in the ever-growing crossover market. And for the 2019 model year, the GMC Terrain is getting a plethora of new treats that will make it even more competitive.
The terrain in 2019 continues to arrive at the dealers and already carries out attractive factory offers. New options for 2019 include Black Edition and Chrome option packages, as well as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. The SLT trim gets a $500 price cut. The midsize SLE-1 trim is easiest to find, while the upscale Denali is always a bit scarce. Note that the entry-level SSL, which few buyers want, is excluded from the factory’s incentive programs.

So as we waited to get some travel time in Sierra 2019, we spent five days in the terrain 2019 GMC Terrain Denali Changes is starting to deliver for the 2019 model year. Here is a rundown of the new in this issue, as well as driving impressions and fuel division numbers from our time with the SUV. Once you get in the driver’s seat, you’ll find a gearbox involved missing. As of 2018, 2019 GMC Terrain Denali Changes has moved gearbox control to small switches just below the climate control area. That may take a little getting used to, but we found it easy to use and a non-issue. This placement frees up space between the leather-ordered seats, and you won’t have any trouble finding a place to plug in your phone or park your coffee in that vehicle. Our front seat passenger raved about the two-way power lumbar and overall seat comfort, and the driver’s seat is just as comfortable.
On the way, Terrain can handle a hit and navigate to a booty. The route is relatively relaxed. GM has launched its most sophisticated entertainment system in the 2018 Terrain and some Cadillac models. She will come to Sierra for the first time in the 2019 edition and this was our first driving experience. Verdict: It is a home. If you look at the screen, you can always click on the most relevant apps (navigation and music). Meanwhile, the screen actually responds to the touch – we would say it is one of the few that has a smartphone response.
More importantly, the navigation system works as you expected (but never) from others. It works in the cloud, so real-time updates are needed. As with a Netflix account, you can customize a profile so that you and others that drive the car do not have to keep changing your music, preferred locations, and other settings.

While the EPA rated Terrain 2.0 at 23 mpg (21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway) in 2019, we didn’t hit those numbers in real driving. In our five days with him, we’ve taken several rides on highways from Manhattan to Rockaway Beach and back. Mixing desk in some cities driving and alternating between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, we average 19.3 mpg. We would say that’s about what you’d get if you split your time evenly between highways and stop/city travel. Terrain really doesn’t compete in the trophosome maneuver. In our last 24 hours with this SUV, we drove strictly in the city and clocked about 16 mpg.
However, this shrunken terrain (it lost 3 inches for 2018) does better than its predecessor when parking downtown. As you can see above, it only takes a shop window and a door.
The return for 2019 is Terrain’s three engine options from the previous year:
- 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder (170 horsepower and 203 pounds of torque)
- 1.6-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder (137 horsepower and 240 meters of torque)
- 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder (252bhp and 260 tonnes of torque)
- The turbo leaves the pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel gets a six-speed.
Our terrain ran with the 2.0 ($1,495), and we had more than enough power for the tap for highway maneuvers. We’ve heard complaints about the lower engine options, so this one seems to be the safest bet. As for the Powertrain combination, we felt our share of pride along the way. Even after trying to accelerate as gently and evenly as possible, the lower aisles became a bit bumpy. Over 35 km/h it is mostly smooth sailing.

In IIHS crash tests on the 2018 model, Terrain nailed the top grade in each category. He also scored well for the anchors of child seats. His only weakness was headlights. (The led model had automatically high beams.) The ground has a 5-star NHTSA safety rating. Again, additional safety equipment is the way to go. With regard to supply and supply of parts, the 2019 territory in Mexico will be gathered with 37% parts from Canada and the United States, and 41% from Mexico. The front-end (SL) models start at $ 25,995. Wheel start costs start at $ 30,795. The SLT black top-of-the-line engine, two packs, the prepaid package, the II pack, the expired devices, and the weather-mattress mats came to $ 40,550 with a charge. The other big change for 2019 is the arrival of the Black Edition (795 dollars), which we rode in the all-wheel-drive SLT trim ($33,595 before add-ons). This outdoor package gives you 19-inch shiny aluminum wheels, a darker lattice insert, roof rails, outdoor badges, and a few other accents.

For a brand that doesn’t bring much flash to the table, this swallowed look has really worked for us. The wheels could be the highlight (pardon the camera effect). For those who want some more light in their lives, a Chrome package (lots of aluminum, gray and chrome accents) offers another option (also $795).
