2019 GMC Terrain Denali Redesign
2019 GMC Terrain Denali Redesign You can talk about the latest Camaro or the award-winning Bolt electric car, but there’s still only one indispensable vehicle for General Motors in 2018. This will be the truck platform on which the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are based. For the 2019 model year, those trucks have been completely revamped, and some trims have already begun arriving at dealerships from the automaker’s factory in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In the case of the GMC Sierra, you’ll find it hard these days to call it just an imaginative Silverado, and that was the automaker’s goal.
That sentiment goes double for the Sierra Denali 2019. After our general detour to the Sierra redesign, we had the opportunity to get into a new Denali and see what the model offers truck buyers. Here’s what we learned, including impressions of a day driving a 2019 Denali 1500 Crew Cab with all-wheel drive. For starters, the new Sierra is longer (3.9 inches), larger (1.3 inches) and wider (1.2 inches) than the outgoing model. While noticing the changes standing next to the 2019 edition, the bulk of the length added went to the back seats.
External changes include the more distinctive grid, the chrome badge in front of the side mirrors and the new fog lights. Railay tires and 20-inch wheels are standard for Denalis all-wheel drive. They will also be updated with Denali’s premium interior. Back are the heated and ventilated leather seats, and you’ll find 10-way power controls in the front as well as the lumbar spine. It’s a comfortable cabin by any assessment, and we felt comfortable after several hours in the driver’s seat.

The Denali Trims also offer backbench heated leather seats. The big upgrade gives it an extra 3 inches of legroom courtesy of the stretched wheelbase. At the front of the technology/control, this model features GM’s advanced entertainment system, which debuted 2019 GMC Terrain Denali Redesign and some Cadillac models. It may remember the attitudes of different drivers (who can go with you to other GM vehicles) and do other advanced things, but its biggest plus is how easy it is to operate. Usage is more like operating a smartphone than other systems we’ve tried.
The 2019 Denali gets a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine with eight-speed automatic transmission. As in the previous model, the update brings 5,3 355 horsepower and 383 pounds of torque. Denali’s powerful 6.2-liter V8 (460bhp) gets a 10-speed automatic gearbox, and that’s the model we tried. It has the truck’s first Dynamic Fuel Management System, which gives it the ability to run on 17 different types of cylinder activation, GMC said.
In our driving day, this drivetrain shifted smoothly and effortlessly up and down, whether alone or with a full back seat and loaded bed. With the Denali Ultimate package ($ 5,710) you will have some useful steering wheel technology. The new Rear Camera Mirror and 3-inch per 7-inch head-up display (HUD) are the two big highlights. You hardly have to take your eyes off the road or wonder in the slightest what’s behind you. Our favorite feature of the HUD is speed limit detection — it shows the sign on the display as you pass between zones.
Debuting for 2019 and upcoming standard in the Sierra Denali is the MultiPro Tailgate. While we’ve written extensively about this feature elsewhere, it needs to reiterate that it offers owners six different features, including second-class charging and a cabin renewal feature. If you go all the way down, it offers an easy step to get in the truck, making charging easy. You can even add a stereo to the tailgate if you want to spend the day working out of your back and drive some music with your truck.
The 2019 GMC Terrain Denali Redesign comes with three propulsion options, including a unique diesel engine. All are available with front or all-wheel drive. The standard 1.5-liter turbo engine produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Both petrol engines are equipped with a 9-speed automatic. The fuel economy is estimated to be 26 miles per gallon in the city, 30 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg in combined front-wheel drive driving (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) beats these numbers at 24 mpg city/28 mpg hwy/26 mpg combined.
TThe power upgrade is a 2.0-liter turbo-4, which is good for 252bhp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It is standard on the Denali and optional on other trim. Fuel economy estimates are 22 mpg city/28 mpg hwy/24 mpg in combination with FWD and 21 mpg city/26 mpg hwy/23 mpg combined with AWD. The fuel economy upgrade is a diesel-powered 1.6-liter turbo-4 that delivers 137bhp and 240lb-ft of torque. It has a 6-speed automatic. It gives 28 mpg city/39 mpg hwy/32 mpg combined with FWD back and is basically the same as with AWD. Despite this improvement over the base engine, the price of diesel could mean the Terrain diesel is not cheaper to refuel during the year. On the other hand, we’ve found that the diesel site tends to get something similar to its estimates, while the smaller gas turbo may fall short.

In this Denali, you get a completely new ProGrade trailering system with a driver app in the vehicle. That brings, among other things, a trailer brake controller, a trailer shot control, a Hill Start Assist, side mirror, Hitch View with Hitch Guidance and a checklist before departure. AutoTrac’s two-speed transfer case (another standard feature) makes low-tradition maneuvering with a trailer safer. With a 5-foot-8-inch box, a Sierra Denali can process up to 1,610 pounds in 2019 and haul up to 9,300 pounds. Those numbers drop to 1,540 pounds and 9,100 pounds, respectively, with a 6-foot box, 6-inch box.
Meanwhile, the Sierra short messaging box offers the most cargo space (62.9 cubic meters) in the industry. Twelve charge anchors come with this model, and you can stash them in the back seat on the driver’s side. 2019 GMC Terrain Denali Redesign produces the Sierra Denali and SLT models with the standard box. In 2019, retailers will begin offering the industry’s first carbon error box (CarbonPro) as an option. The carmaker claims it has unprecedented dent-resistant and scratch-resistant properties.

Sierra Denali is equipped as standard with front and rear parking assistant, lane change, cross-traffic alert, and a rear camera. With the Ultimate Package in the model we tested ($67,200 in total), car brakes and frontal collision are a few more safety technologies. You will notice that these warnings vibrate your seat when the vehicle feels danger. The security suite was definitely used on our drive.
Now you can start shaping the Sierra Denali. The basic two-wheel cabin models start at $ 56,195. For all wheels, the price is $ 59,495. The 6.2-liter model (€ 61.990) is only available with a four-wheel drive system. In spite of the weight loss and the new cylinder deactivation technique in the 2019 model, the fuel economy for 2019 has not improved. The Sierra Denali gets 17 mpg in combination with the two engines. There is a slightly better motorway economy (21 mpg) in the 5.3-liter model than in 6.2 (20mpg).
