2019 GMC Terrain Specs and Dimensions Sometimes it can be very fun to use a car for a purpose in which it was totally involuntary. Attend your author’s annual insistence on 1600km’s conduct through a February Blizzard at the Canadian International Auto Show in a sports car. On occasion, however, it ends up being equally rewarding to deploy a vehicle in a task that fits perfectly with its mission. That’s why we decided to take the 2019 GMC Terrain Denali on a family trip looking for Christmas treats.
Forest Glen Greenhouse is a family business that got its start more than thirty years ago as a simple, small garden. Now, the owners Judy and Lee Thompson have grown up (pun intended) in a space spanning six acres. At this time of year, they throw their doors open and invite the public into their gardens, with more than 50 000 beautiful red poinsettias on display. With snow on the ground, we packed all the hands in the GMC and headed out.
The Denali sub-brand has been an arrow in GM’s marketing quiver since 1999 when it was added to whimsical versions of the Yukon SUV. Since then, the name Denali has developed to encompass all models that GMC makes, except for cargo box utility vans. The demand for leather trappings is naturally low in this segment.
General Motors positions the terrain as a competitor in the small crossover class, setting it up against the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota recently restyled RAV4.

Given the level of focus being shoveled to the safety concept by other manufacturers, including Toyota and its sense nanny safety suite, GMC would do well to highlight the kit’s level of Denali terrain in this area, as well as its rating of Five-star security. However, the good things – adaptive and similar cruises – are additional cost items that should be standard equipment at this level. For example, the $995 surround vision allows drivers not only a look up and down on the car while parking, but also the ability to see its surroundings from a person’s point of view could get while using the camera ” Follow ‘ in a racing simulator.
It’s a clever use of the terrain camera system, one that makes parking a breeze and would be awesome on, say, an all-terrain truck while gently trying to place a wheel on a rock. The rear vision HD camera works as advertised, offering a backward view with alarming clarity. Even my dad took note of his image quality, noting that most other systems “Make everything look like the Blair Witch Project. “
And you’re wondering why I’m given a certain amount of hyperbole in these comments. Our trip to Forest Glen Greenhouse takes us beyond Brookfield Bakery, a small boutique that has been selling tasty treats to the community ever since. The smell of chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon buns will soon fill the car. Not all of them get to our next stop at the greenhouse.
Sitting on a wheelbase longer than the new RAV – 2725mm vs 2960mm – and casting roughly the same size shadow, terrain 2019 drew many additional passenger notes on our trip to find festive treats. The Denali-SPEC seats are wrapped in soft perforated leather and have been judged to be very comfortable by the front and rear seat runners.
Shaded in a GMC hue calls Light Platinum, your author worries about how cream colored mats will wear out over time. The floor of our tester, bearing 3500 km on its odometer, was already tinted brown by the worst of winter followed by the certainly awkward feet and elephantine belonging to a parade of automobile journalists. Tip Pro: Opt for all-weather $ 290-floor mats. The overall fit and finish were excellent, giving the Denali terrain a very solid feel.
AAhead of the passenger and above the gloves is an intelligent illuminated mailslot opened from a Cubby that is the perfect size to hold a smartphone. Adding a charging point up there will make the space even more useful. The unique push button on the terrain releases the console space and is much more intuitive than what the Luddites would have you believe. Mark me as a fan.
The rear seat riders will enjoy a nice flat floor and heated seats that can be put to warm your buttocks or back. There is also a pair of intelligently placed USB ports and an 11V socket. Out in the way back, there is nifty flooring storage in the cargo area, big enough to accept a 10-inch milk Queen Ice Cream cake (this very specific measure is brought to you by a supply run. For a November birthday party).
The rear hatch itself, opening on an area with 838L of measured loading space, has a wide and well-formed opening, but its handle is located down through the bumper where you will get your dirty hand. Each. Only. Time. Use the FOB or the standard hands-free system instead.

Our destination takes us off the paved road #2 and on the land portion of Brentwood Road in rural Nova Scotia. The morning snow went extinct at a bit of drizzle, changing the surface of the road to a muddy soup that sticks outside the top of Denali white as the icing of these long-gone cinnamon buns stick to the roof of my mouth.
The entire terrain traction system is driven by an online 2.0 L turbocharger that makes a powerful 252 of power and is supported by a nine-speed automatic transmission. This is an appropriate level of Grunt for a crossover weighing at 3800lbs. The small full-haul terrain fittings, such as SLE and SLT, are available with a 1.5 L Turbo. Buyers should pop for the 2.0 L and its premium $1700, without question. Thus equipped, its price is analogous to the high-spec fittings of its competitors but with a power advantage.

Snowfall and freezing temperatures earlier in the week proved the value of the system, allowing the terrain to ship up to speed under smooth conditions. Winter tires and a quartet of disc brakes carry everything safely back to rest without drama.
Forest Glen Greenhouse delivered the goods, with rows on rows of poinsettia plants carefully arranged on display, eager to be taken home by the excited buyers. The Thompsons estimate that nearly 3000 people will pass through the doors during the weekend event, which is great support for a local company that employs people in the area while giving something to the community.
Poinsettia plants and sweet treats are hidden in the cargo area of the field, we knock for the house. All hands are happy and comfortable. The use of a car for its destination worked much better than expected. Maybe I’ll do it more often.
Except when you drive to Toronto in a Blizzard, of course.
