2022 GMC Electric Truck In an extraordinary twist of fate, the fuel-consuming middle finger of the Hummer brand flew, which was discontinued in 2010, ready to return in 2022 as the electric sub-brand of GMC. So far we know about the GMC Hummer EV SUT pickup truck.
But we knew that it would offer 1000 horsepower and GMC claims it can go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds.
Pickup trucks are clearly at the forefront of electric vehicles, as potential competitors from startups like Rivian, Bollinger, and Tesla – as well as established truck makers like Ford – are preparing their own entry in this growing segment. We’ll find out soon, as GMC plans to launch the Hummer EV SUT and a new “crab mode” on October 20.
While the Hummer is an old name, the Hummer EV SUT will be the new model for the GMC lineup. General Motors said the new electric pickup truck would be launched in late 2021 as a 2022 model.
2022 GMC Electric Truck News
After initially postponing the debut of the all-electric new Hummer from May due to the coronavirus pandemic, General Motors will finally release a revamped truck tomorrow, October 20, at 8 p.m. ET, and finally, we’ll go over all the details on the truck scheduled to hit the highway late next year. , with the Hummer SUV to follow.
Details so far for the Hummer are sparse, but GMC has revealed that the electric Hummer will produce 1000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, topics we’ve written about earlier. The new truck booster has shown that it will feature a “Crab” mode, allowing the Hummer to move sideways, and will also have a removable roof.
The starting price is still unclear but we expect to start at around $ 70,000, and if you like this truck you’ll be able to order one after tomorrow’s debut.
2022 GMC Electric Truck Rumors
Rumors of a Hummer EV resurrection have been around since 2014. Seriously. But after a not-so-short nine-year hiatus, the SUV’s iconic nameplate is finally back – this time in the form of an electric truck bearing the GMC mark.
Unfortunately, we don’t know all the details yet as the company hid some important facts until Hummer’s official debut. But there are some important points you should know.
We know that the GMC Hummer EV will have more than 1,000 horsepower (745 kilowatts) and 11,500 pound-feet (15,590 Newton-meters) of shaft torque. That means the truck can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour in about 3.0 seconds.
The new Hummer also promises to be on-and-off-road-ready and is built right here in the US. EV will summon GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant.
The GMC Hummer EV 2022 debuted this fall before going on sale in late 2021.
If the name isn’t clear enough, it’s GM’s rise to the famed Hummer brand in a bid to capitalize on that sweet, sweet nostalgia. Only this time the Hummer name replaces the GMC branding, and instead of the underhood V8, this version uses a battery instead.
GMC originally promised a “truck,” but many weren’t sure if that meant a dashing SUV-type vehicle, a traditional pickup, or something in between (our hope was something like the Hummer HX concept). The good news is both.
The latest teaser video released by GMC clearly shows a traditional quad-cab pickup with four doors and a short bunk, as well as an SUV. We also know from the video that the Hummer EV will have an “Infinity Roof” in the open air.

We also know it will be capable both on the road and outside, like most GMC products. And with GMC ensuring a rugged AT4 option for every vehicle in its lineup, a tougher Hummer is just the thing. But don’t expect it from the start.
Our first look at the new Hummer arrived before the Super Bowl truck ad. The image on the front shows a six-blade grille (like the one on the H2 and H3) with each letter of the word “HUMMER” emblazoned inside, features illumination, and square LED headlamps.
At the bottom of the image, we see a large ventilation opening, a “GMC” badge located on the top right, and a strong set of front fender flares.
But the latest teaser is a bit more revealing and gives a better look at the overall shape of the upcoming truck. The new video shows the Hummer EV as both a traditional truck and a rugged SUV, touting large off-road tires and unique wheel design.
We’ve created what the final product we think will look like (below), but we’ll have to wait for full disclosure.
Sorry, Hummer loyal, this one doesn’t have a V8. The GMC Hummer will be fully electric and offer 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of shaft torque (that’s a bit misleading, but that’s what the company quotes).
Utilizing up to three electric motors with multiple drive modes, GMC says the Hummer EV should be able to reach a speed of 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in just 3.0 seconds. That’s much faster than the original HumVee, and will even compete with many modern supercars.
2022 GMC Electric Truck Interior
The cabin configuration for the Hummer EV SUT has yet to be announced, but we hope GM will likely skip over the usual body styling and extended cabin and make the Hummer EV SUT a four-door crew cabin only.
If the GMC Sierra crew cabin pickup truck is the right choice, we expect two rows of spacious seating and practical touches, such as large storage, throughout the cabin.
We expect the high-tech touchscreen interface to be in line with the technologically advanced EV powertrain. Several connectivity features are likely to become standard, including Apple CarPlay / Android Auto capabilities, Wi-Fi hotspot, and GM’s OnStar telematics system.
2022 GMC Electric Truck Battery
The company hasn’t released any official details about things like range and battery life, but we do know that with GM’s new Ultium battery, it has to be powerful and efficient.
The most efficient Ultium batteries can deliver a range of up to 400 miles (644 kilometers) and offer fast charging capability. Don’t expect the Hummer EV to have that much range, but GM says it will have an 800-volt battery pack in all of its trucks capable of charging at 350 kilowatts.
2022 GMC Electric Truck Engine
We’ve heard that the Hummer EV SUT will be available with one, two, or three electric motors. The single unit represents a rear-drive model while the two- and three-motor setups show two different all-wheel-drive potentials – and incredible acceleration.
So powerful, in fact, that GMC claims a 3.0-second zero-to-60-mph time for the truck. Each additional electric motor must increase the load or crane capacity. GMC claims that the Hummer EV SUT will produce 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. While we are concerned about how the misleading torque figure is calculated, it must have a lot of traction in any way.
Speaking of towing and payload, to compete with Rivian’s Cybertruck and R1T and R1S models, the Hummer EV needs to have a towing capacity of between 7500 and 11,000 pounds and a payload capacity of between 1,500 and 3,500 pounds.
The Hummer EV SUT will use GM’s third-generation EV platform. The company also says that its truck-based model will have an 800-volt architecture with 350 kWh fast charging capability. That suggests the Hummer could have a range of up to 400 miles.
2022 GMC Electric Truck MPG
Since the Hummer EV SUT does not yet exist, it is not known what kind of fuel economy such a vehicle will offer. When we reach production, we will test this massive engine on a 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route and report our findings here.
2022 GMC Electric Truck Price and Release Date
GMC will build a new Hummer EV in the US at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan. This is consistent with reports suggesting GM will build a new Hummer EV alongside a new Cadillac Escalade.
GMC has provided no clue how much the Hummer EV will cost. But let’s speculate. The upcoming Rivian R1T pickup will cost less than $ 69,000. The Tesla Cybertruck is going to be a little more affordable, asking for close to $ 40,000. And the gas-powered GMC Sierra pickup currently costs around $ 30,000 to start but goes up to $ 54,700 for the fancier Denali model.
A safe estimate would put the GMC Hummer EV around $ 70,000. Given that GMC is “the only premium truck brand” in the world, expect a premium price tag. The Denali and AT4 models (if that was the case) would probably cost a little more.
GMC first teased Hummer during the 2020 Super Bowl, and a disclosure date for May 20 has been planned. However, the global Coronavirus pandemic led GMC to postpone the debut of the Hummer EV until the end of this year.
But we’ll see the new GMC Hummer EV go official this fall, and the automaker says development isn’t affected, meaning it’s still ready to go on sale in late 2021 as a 2022 model.
